The NUS–Lancet Pandemic Readiness through Institutions, Mobilising Communities, and Equity (PRIME) Commission, established by NUS and The Lancet, introduced a practical blueprint for early threat detection and more people-centred implementations to support equitable pandemic readiness.
Drawing on communities’ lived experiences and whole-of-society perspectives across 20 countries, its recommendations are intended to ensure that countries focus not only on strengthening technical capabilities, but also on investing in the social and community infrastructure necessary to provide genuine protection for their populations.
The PRIME foundational blocks and test set out how these changes can be delivered in practice at the community, national, regional and global levels. These recommendations have the potential not only to save lives, but to strengthen institutions and community bonds for future health emergencies and other crises.
The next phase is about moving “from paper to action”, NUS will continue its leadership role as PRIME moves into the implementation stages.
