The SIV award – considered the highest volunteer award conferred by SIF – is a new award which honours and recognises the contributions of outstanding volunteers who have taken time to share their expertise and resources in many overseas countries; displayed outstanding leadership capabilities in creating sustainable mindset changes and impacted institutional or policy changes in those countries.

Prof Koh was amongst the three shortlisted nominees from the seven individuals who were nominated by peers and overseas partners for their exceptional leadership in lobbying overseas decision-makers to effect policy change. These individuals have also proactively engaged a wide spectrum of local professionals in Singapore to support these changes.

Prof Koh was announced the award winner after a stringent selection process by a panel of judges comprising SIF management and online voting by the SIV community @ SIV portal at the SIV Appreciation Evening held on 14 September 2012. Prof Koh emerged as the winner for his 17 years of dedicated service and illustrious contributions. He received the prestigious award from the evening’s Guest-of-Honour as well as Patron of SIF, President Tony Tan Keng Yam.
