The National University of Singapore (NUS) is proud to announce its role as a founding member of the World Health Organization’s (WHO) Global Clinical Trials Forum (GCTF), a critical new platform dedicated to strengthening clinical trial ecosystems through global collaboration.
NUS, represented by the Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health (SSHSPH) and the ADVANCE-ID network, joins this multi-stakeholder initiative to integrate ethical, inclusive, and high-quality clinical trials as a foundational element of health systems worldwide.
Commitment and Contribution
Through its participation in the GCTF, NUS will focus on four key areas:
- Expert Guidance: Contributing expertise and technical capacity to implement the WHO’s Guidance for Best Practices for Clinical Trials.
- Regional Capacity Building: Partnering with other institutions to strengthen capabilities by training and mentoring researchers across the Asia region.
- Innovation in Design: Developing innovative and efficient trial designs that ensure equitable representation and strengthen robust evidence generation.
- Community Engagement: Supporting community engagement initiatives to make clinical research more inclusive and sustainable.
Reinforcing Global Health Efforts
This partnership aligns perfectly with NUS’s mission to educate, inspire, and transform, directly supporting the WHO’s vision for a world where all countries can generate robust evidence to guide their national health policy and practice.
Prof Teo Yik Ying, Vice President (Global Health) and Dean, SSHSPH, National University of Singapore, highlighted the strategic importance of the collaboration:
“This is an important development which reinforces how multilateral efforts can benefit the global community, especially to strengthen the development of safe and effective therapeutics, diagnostics, and vaccines. The National University of Singapore is privileged to be able to extend its technical expertise and international networks to advance this alongside other members from different parts of the world.”
