Leadership Transition at ADVANCE-ID: Appointment of Dr Mo Yin as Director

We are pleased to announce that Dr Mo Yin has been appointed as the Director of ADVANCE-ID, with effect from 1 July 2026.

An Infectious Diseases physician and clinician-scientist, Dr Mo Yin has served as Deputy Director and Co-Director of ADVANCE-ID since its inception. Her research focuses on antimicrobial resistance and emerging infectious diseases, with a strong commitment to using high-quality clinical research to improve patient outcomes and inform global health policy. Her expertise includes multi-centre clinical trials, innovative trial designs, mathematical modelling, qualitative methodologies and public engagement.

Dr Mo has received numerous awards recognising her excellence in clinical care, research, and teaching. She has also served as an external consultant to international organisations, including the World Health Organization (WHO), the Global Antibiotic Research and Development Partnership (GARDP), and CARB-X. She obtained her MBBS from the National University of Singapore and her DPhil from the University of Oxford.

As Director, Dr Mo will lead ADVANCE-ID into its next phase of growth, with a focus on expanding collaborative research networks, strengthening clinical trial and surveillance capacity, and accelerating the translation of research findings into policy and practice. Under her leadership, ADVANCE-ID will continue its mission to address major infectious diseases challenges through high-quality research, capacity strengthening, and regional partnerships across Asia and beyond.

Professor David Paterson, the inaugural Director of ADVANCE-ID, will assume the role of Executive Chair with effect from 1 July 2026.

Professor Paterson is an internationally recognised Infectious Diseases physician and Clinical Microbiologist whose research has significantly advanced the understanding and management of antimicrobial resistance. Prior to joining the National University of Singapore in 2022, he served as Director of the University of Queensland Centre for Clinical Research in Brisbane, Australia, and Chief of Transplant Infectious Diseases at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in the United States. Over the course of his distinguished career, Professor Paterson has published more than 700 peer-reviewed papers, including in leading journals such as The New England Journal of Medicine, The Lancet, and JAMA. His research focuses on the epidemiology, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of antimicrobial resistance, with particular interests in antimicrobial clinical trials and the development of novel therapeutic agents.

The School extends its sincere appreciation to Professor Paterson for his visionary leadership in establishing and growing ADVANCE-ID, and looks forward to the continued contributions of both Professor Paterson and Dr Mo Yin as they lead the centre into its next chapter.
