We were delighted to welcome over 30 participants from across the healthcare and government sectors to the Basic Outbreak Rapid Response course, held on 20–22 July and 27–28 July 2026.
Led by Associate Professor Steven Ooi, this foundational SG FETP training introduced participants to key principles and practical tools in field epidemiology and rapid outbreak response. The course, based on the One Health framework, highlighted the importance of effective outbreak preparedness, risk assessment, surveillance and management systems in safeguarding community health.
Jointly offered by trainers from NUS, NCID and allied public health agencies, the course provided hands-on learning in applying epidemiologic methods during public health emergencies. Participants gained practical skills in conducting rapid response on the ground, supporting surveillance and outbreak investigations, and implementing preventive and preparedness measures.
Beyond technical training, the course also offers valuable insights into the interpersonal and coordination skills needed to address real-world challenges during outbreak management. Through active discussions and applied learning, participants will be better equipped to contribute to public health preparedness and response in an increasingly complex outbreak landscape.
