Overview
This course will introduce the knowledge and tools related to epidemiology and public health practice, in understanding the construct of public health emergencies, quantifying public health threats, and applying them in the community dimensions. Besides technical skills, it will also provide insights and hone the interpersonal skills to resolve challenges during outbreak management.
The course is an intermediate level (Tier 2) S-FETP training for field officers who have previously obtained their Tier 1 certificate of competence.
Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Apply evidence-based scientific approach when conducting field work and outbreak management
- Quantify and explain transmission dynamics in the emergence of unusual public health events
- Acquire skills to effect preventive and preparedness actions
Who Should Attend?
This course is recommended for Environmental, Food and Safety, Disease Prevention officers who have previously obtained their Tier 1 (Applied Epidemiology and Rapid Response; or Basic Outbreak Rapid Response) foundational certificate of competence and are keen to develop further proficiency in field epidemiology methods, and have support from your supervisors and HR.
Assessment & Certification
A Certificate of Completion in Fundamental Field Epidemiology will be awarded to participants who achieve a minimum of 70% attendance and pass all assessment components.
Participants who successfully obtain both Tier 1 and 2 competency certifications will be awarded the Professional Certificate in Outbreak Alert and Response.
Pre-requisites
- Diploma or Bachelor’s degree
- Relevant public health related work experience
- Candidates with other qualifications and experience may be considered on a case-by-case basis, subject to approval
- Officers must have their Tier 1 foundational certificate of competence in order to attend this course

SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG) Funding Requirements
- This is a SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG) approved course. As part of SSG funding requirements, participants must pass all assessment(s) and adhere to the fee payment timeline of 120 days from the course start date.
- Individuals or organisations will be liable to pay the full course fees in the event that learners fail to meet the assessment requirements, payment timeline and the other terms and conditions for SSG funding eligibility.

Cancellation
