NUS Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health presents the Thought Leadership Series, featuring Professor Dame Carol Black, Expert Advisor on Health and Work to the Department of Health, England, as she shares her views on Shifting the Paradigm: Integrating Workplace Health Protection and Health Promotion.

About the speaker:

Professor Dame Carol Black

Professor Dame Carol Black is Principal of Newnham College Cambridge, Expert Advisor on Health and Work to the Department of Health, Chair of the Nuffield Trust, and Chair of the Governance Board of the Centre for Workforce Intelligence. She is past-President of the Royal College of Physicians, the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges, and the British Lung Foundation. Previously, Dame Carol was Medical Director of the Royal Free Hospital, London, and Professor of Rheumatology at the Royal Free Hospital and University College Medical School. She has worked at board level in a number of organisations, has been awarded many honorary degrees and fellowships, and is on several national committees to improve healthcare.

About the panellists:

Er Ho Siong Hin

Engineer (Er.) Ho Siong Hin is Singapore’s Commissioner for Workplace Safety and Health (WSH). He has presented many papers on Occupational Safety & Health matters and works closely with the International Labour Organisation and World Health Organisation to improve OSH standards in the ASEAN region. He is a member of the Professional Engineers Board, a member of the Singapore Accreditation Council by SPRING and chairs the Council Committee on Inspection Bodies. Er. Ho was recently conferred Honorary Vice-President by the Institution of Occupational Safety & Health, UK.

Mr Zee Yoong Kang

Mr Zee Yoong Kang is the Chief Executive Officer of Singapore’s Health Promotion Board (HPB). Established in 2001, HPB’s mission is to help Singaporeans increase the quality and years of healthy life and to prevent illness, disability and premature death. Mr Zee started his career in the Administrative Service of the Singapore Government then joined the private sector as a management consultant where he handled a range of projects in the Heavy Engineering, IT, Logistics and FMCG sectors. Subsequently, Mr Zee joined Singapore’s National Trades Union Congress, where he founded NTUC LearningHub and the Employment & Employability Institute (e2i).

Prof Chia Kee Seng

Professor Chia Kee Seng is the Founding Dean of the NUS Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health. He started his professional career as an occupational medicine specialist and is currently a member of the Workplace Safety and Health Council and Board Member of the National Environment Agency. His current research focus is in the molecular epidemiology of chronic diseases and the translation of these findings to preventive measures at the population level.
