Abstract:
Dengue is an important vector-borne disease that is endmic in over 100 countries. In 2024, more than 14 million cases were reported worldwide. There is currently no licensed antiviral or specific treatment available, highlighting the need for safe and effective therapeutics.
In this webinar, Dr Chan Xin Hui will give an overview of the World Health Organization’s target product profiles (TPP), which serves to provide guidance on the criteria for therapeutics to be implemented so as to facilitate alignment between public health and research priorities. Dr Suzie Lant will present on the DEN-HOST study, a large pragmatic clinical trial investigating host directed therapies in moderate and severe dengue. The first of its kind, it aims to discover safe and affordable therapeutics that prevent disease progression among high-risk groups, and improve outcomes for patients with severe disease.
Together, these talks provide a complementary landscape on dengue therapeutic discovery and development that prioritize the goals of public health and research. This webinar will be moderated by Prof. Leo Yee-Sin from the Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health, NUS.
