Is the NUS MScHEOR degree recognised internationally?
NUS is internationally recognised and consistently ranked among Asia’s best universities. It currently ranks within the top 50 in global university rankings. Although SSHSPH was established in 2011, its history traces back to the Department of Social Medicine and Public Health, which was formed in 1948 under what was then the University of Malaya.

Core Courses (Semester 1):

Each in-person core course is delivered in a one-week intensive format, with full-day sessions held on fixed dates. Students are required to attend all sessions during the scheduled week.

These are typically arranged for the first 2 weeks of the NUS academic year, Semester 1.

Elective Courses (Semester 2):
Elective courses are typically delivered in a one-week intensive format, with full-day sessions. These are scheduled across a 10-week period, allowing students to select electives that best align with their availability and interests.

A detailed schedule and confirmed dates will be shared with successful applicants upon offer, to support planning.

The MScHEOR programme is a 40-unit (10 courses) degree completed over one year (full-time) or two years (part-time), comprising 24 units (6 courses) of core and 16 units (4 courses) of electives courses.

Classes will commence one week after the orientation week in August. Please refer to the NUS Academic Calendar.

Students admitted are required to attend the following in-person courses in their first semester of enrolment:
Full-Time Students

  • HE5001 Evidence Synthesis for HEOR
  • HE5005 Capstone I

Part-Time Students

  • HE5001 Evidence Synthesis for HEOR

Attendance at these courses is mandatory. Students who do not attend will have their enrolment in the course automatically deferred to the following year, which may impact their study plans.

The dates will be published on our website during the application period as well as in the offer letters. Students who are working should plan their leave for this period. A detailed schedule and confirmed dates will be shared with successful applicants upon offer, to support planning.

Unless granted approval by our University, a candidate should not be a concurrent student for more than one degree. A candidate should also not register both as an NUS candidate and for another university/institute.

Questions on Programme Candidature

What is the duration of study for the MScHEOR Programme?

The MScHEOR is a 40-unit programme comprising 10 courses in total and is offered on both a full-time and part-time basis. Students are required to complete 24 units (6 courses) of core courses and 16 units (4 courses) of electives.

Full-time study: 1 year

Part-time study: 2 years

Full-time international students may apply to work on a part-time basis up to 16 hours per week during the period of their candidature under the NUS Student Work Scheme (NSWS).

Full-time students are not permitted to hold full-time employment during their candidature unless explicit approval in writing is granted by the Vice-Dean (Education).

Application for LOA before and during Instructional Week 2

Students may be granted a Leave of Absence (LOA) from the University with a maximum of one year, which will be excluded from the count against their maximum duration of candidature. Students should seek approval from the programme director in writing prior to applying for a leave of absence.

Application for LOA after Instructional Week 2

You will be charged the full semester fees.

This will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Do discuss with the programme administrators prior to your application as there will be implications on your fees.

Questions on Programme Eligibility

What are the requirements for the MScHEOR programme?

Applicants must meet one of the following sets of criteria:
1. For applicants with honours:

  • Hold a recognised bachelor’s degree with good honours (or equivalent) in one of the following:
    • A healthcare-related discipline, or
    • A quantitative discipline such as economics, engineering, mathematics, science, or statistics

2. For applicants without honours:

  • Hold a recognised bachelor’s degree in a healthcare-related or quantitative discipline (as listed above), and
  • Have at least two years of relevant working experience

It should be noted that satisfying minimal standards is not a guarantee of admission, since the number of qualified applicants usually exceeds the number of places available.

Yes, we welcome applications from fresh graduates who hold a recognised bachelor’s degree with good honours in a healthcare-related discipline or a quantitative discipline such as economics, engineering, mathematics, science, or statistics.

Questions on Standardised Test Scores for International Applicants

What are the minimum scores required for TOEFL and IELTS?

International applicants must submit test scores for the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) or IELTS Academic (International English Language Testing System) and must meet the minimum scores required:

  • 85 on the TOEFL Test
  • 6 on the IELTS Academic Test

Test scores for the TOEFL and IELTS Academic are valid for 2 years from the test dates. TOEFL and IELTS Academic scores that are no longer valid will not be accepted. Your test scores must still be valid during the period of application. If your test scores expire before the application closes, it will not be valid.

Please retake the test to attain the minimum requirement and apply for the next admission.

If your undergraduate or graduate degrees are from Singapore autonomous universities or taught and issued from English-medium institutions located in Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and the United States, you may be exempted.

Otherwise, you MUST submit valid test scores for the TOEFL or IELTS Academic.

How do I apply for the scholarships?

If you believe you will need any amount of financial support, we strongly encourage you to state your interest in applying for a scholarship or financial aid as you submit your online application for our graduate programmes.

Questions on Application Process and Fees

How do I apply for the programme?

Applicants may apply for the programme via online only on our website “How to Apply”.

Applicants are advised to apply directly to the University and not through any agents. The University reserves the right to reject applications via agents without providing a reason.

After submitting your application online, please inform the administrators via our mailbox of the issue immediately to arrange for a postponement of the dateline. If the required documents are not provided by the agreed postponed date, the application will be deemed void.

We accept the following:

  • World Education Services (WES) evaluation reports, sent directly to our school by WES
  • CSSD-verified transcripts, sent directly to our school by CSSD (for applicants from China)
  • Parchment-verified transcripts, sent directly to our school by Parchment

The application fee is S$100.00 (S$109.00 inclusive of the prevailing Goods and Services Tax). Please note that the fee is non-refundable. Applications can only be processed once the full application fee has been received.
