Admission Requirements – Graduate Research Programmes

Applicants must fulfill the following minimum admission requirements:

1. Academic Qualifications

Master of Science (MSc)

  1. Bachelor’s Degree with good Honours (at least 2nd Upper Class) or its equivalent in a relevant discipline
    OR
  2. MBBS or its equivalent
    OR
  3. Bachelor of Dental Surgery or its equivalent

Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)

  1. Good Master’s Degree in a relevant discipline
    OR
  2. Bachelor’s Degree with good Honours (at least 2nd Upper Class) or its equivalent in a relevant discipline
    OR
  3. MBBS or its equivalent
    OR
  4. Bachelor of Dental Surgery or its equivalent

2. Standardised Tests (applicable for both MSc and PhD applicants)

a) English language requirements for International Applicants*

International applicants are required to submit valid test scores for either the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) or the IELTS Academic (International English Language Testing System) and meet the following minimum requirements:

  • TOEFL (taken before 21 January 2026): Minimum overall score of 94
  • TOEFL (taken on or after 21 January 2026): Minimum overall score of 5.0
  • IELTS Academic: Minimum overall band score of 7.0

TOEFL and IELTS Academic test scores are valid for 2 years from the test dates. Scores that have expired by the application closing date will not be accepted.

TOEFL/IELTS requirements are waived for applicants who have obtained, or are currently pursuing, a bachelor’s or master’s degree at a Singapore autonomous university, or at an English-medium institution in Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, or the United States.

b) GRE® General Test

While the GRE® General Test is not mandatory, all applicants are strongly encouraged to submit valid GRE scores. Evidence of strong quantitative, verbal, and analytical skills through GRE scores, as well as indicators of research skills and experience will significantly strengthen your application.
