Giving Stories

Mr Jerrald Lau Xunheng

My undergraduate background in health psychology and subsequent work as a health communication researcher provided me with an introduction to the common communicable and noncommunicable diseases that are pertinent to Singapore. While I was exposed to some of the key drivers and interventions currently in play, I realised that my interest in these public health issues would require me to continue building the relevant skillsets and expertise within this field. Getting into SSHSPH has not just provided me with the ideal learning environment, but has also given me the chance to learn from colleagues of diverse professional backgrounds.

Our interactions thus far have helped to provide me with varied perspectives of public health issues as seen from the eyes of medical professionals, communication specialists, civil servants and more, and I deeply value these opportunities.

I am extremely grateful for the Saw Swee Hock MPH Scholarship in supporting my journey to become a public health professional. In the spirit of the public health community, I hope in time to reciprocate by contributing to evidence-based policies and interventions that seek to benefit Singaporean society at large. This educational award has also spurred me to push my personal and academic boundaries – to excel as best as I can – in all that I do.
