Food choice and meeting the nutritional needs of seniors are always a concern to me. After becoming a community gardener myself, I realised how much seniors know about growing and eating tropical foods, yet don’t practise it anymore because our current food system is more convenient.
I co-founded The Curious Pangolin with my husband to educate the public on the importance of insects, and to spearhead entomological research into beneficial insects for urban gardens. As an avid community gardener myself, I strongly advocate for eating more tropical and unprocessed foods in Singapore, as I believe this leads to increased wellbeing for the consumer and better stewardship of the land. My ties to Cultivate Central led me to be part of project SAGE, where I hope more seniors in the community around Goodman Community Farm can be reconnected with tropical heritage foods, and be better educated and motivated to make better food choices.
