AlumNite 2025: Pre-Commencement Celebrations at NUSS Guild House

The AlumNite 2025 Pre-Commencement Celebrations, held on the delightful evening of 15 July at the NUSS Guild House, brought together nearly 200 graduands, alumni, and faculty for an unforgettable occasion. The atmosphere was absolutely buzzing with joy and excitement as attendees gathered with their loved ones to celebrate this significant milestone in their academic journeys. This was also the first year that graduands received a graduation plush toy of the School mascot, Otus!

The celebration kicked off with an inspiring Welcome Address by our Dean, Professor Teo Yik Ying. With his characteristic warm smile, he heartily congratulated the graduands on their remarkable achievements and their perseverance throughout their studies. He then offered insights into the evolving landscape of public health and the vital role our graduates would play.

“The way I see public health, it’s a constantly evolving space where there are always new innovations, good and bad. This evolution of public health means that Public Health practitioners will continue to remain very important, as we are there to help guide governments on evaluating the effectiveness of their programmes. Be the change that we hope you will be, because you are now a leader in public health.”

In support of continuing education and professional development of public health professionals, Professor Teo also announced the launch of two new postgraduate programmes: the Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) and MSc in Health Economics and Outcomes Research (MScHEOR).

Recognising Student Excellence

The celebrations reached their pinnacle during the highly anticipated award presentation segment. The School took immense pride in recognising the outstanding academic achievements of students and the unwavering dedication of our student representatives. Professor Teo and Associate Professor Liow Chee Hsiang, Vice-Dean of Education, took the stage to congratulate the award recipients. Among the evening’s highlights were the recipients for the Dean’s List for the Master of Public Health programme and the prestigious Graduate Student Research Award. Each announcement was met with enthusiastic applause, heartfelt cheers, and a powerful sense of shared accomplishment, reinforcing the strong bonds within the School and our broader public health community.

The evening concluded in high spirits, filled with laughter, shared memories, and a profound sense of camaraderie, making AlumNite 2025 a truly unforgettable celebration for everyone present.
