Drawing on Singapore’s experience during the 1999 Nipah outbreak and subsequent public health crises such as SARS, experts highlight how measures including personal protective equipment, isolation protocols, diagnostics, and robust contact tracing can effectively contain spread.
In their latest Straits Times commentary, Prof Alex Cook and Prof Leo Yee-Sin highlight the critical importance of preparedness, strong surveillance, and international investment in disease monitoring. They emphasise that Singapore’s readiness is further bolstered by regional initiatives, including the ADVANCE-ID network and the Centre for Outbreak Preparedness.
