Using Theory and Evidence to Improve Public Health Campaign Outcomes in Singapore

Programme Information

Date: 22 – 23 May 2023

Time: 8.00am – 6.00pm (SGT)

Venue:MD1 Tahir Foundation Building, National University of Singapore  (map)

Overview

This two-day workshop will provide a hands-on opportunity to reflect on current and recent health promotion programmes in Singapore and to apply theory-based and evidence-based approaches to programme planning, implementation and evaluation.

Together, participants will review the applied theories of change that inform effective health communication strategies locally and globally. We will analyse the evidence underlying recent programmes in Singapore, identify areas of strength and weakness, and refine approaches to programme planning, implementation, and evaluation that are realistic and aligned to the unique needs of the Singapore population, its public health system, and national goals.

Health topics to be determined based on participant interest, those currently under consideration include:

  • Promoting screening for Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs), including HIV testing and reducing stigma of testing positive
  • Increasing uptake of screening practices for chronic diseases in populations for which there is the least adherence
  • Increasing knowledge of Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR), and motivating responsible use of antibiotics
  • Addressing mental health in vulnerable populations

During the workshop, subgroups of participants will work in groups to focus on a particular health issue/outcome and to practice analytic and strategic planning approaches that can later be applied to other health issues as they arise.

Certification

An electronic Certificate of Completion will be awarded to participants who meet a minimum of 75% attendance.
