Overview

This workshop will provide practical knowledge of how economic evaluations of healthcare innovations are conducted and how economic evidence is used to inform healthcare decisions. Participants will learn why economic evaluations are conducted and when different types of economic evaluations (including cost-effectiveness analysis, cost-utility analysis, and cost-benefit analysis) are appropriate. Methods for measuring the costs and health outcomes of an innovation will be presented, and participants will learn how to interpret and present results from an economic evaluation.

An overview of primary modelling techniques used in economic evaluation and analytic tools to address uncertainty will be provided. Also, ethical and distributional issues in economic evaluation will be discussed, and participants will learn analytic approaches to address these issues. The workshop will conclude with a discussion of important innovations in the field of economic evaluation.

Learning Objectives

This workshop is designed to help participants:

• Determine when and what type of economic evaluation should be conducted
• Understand the design, conduct and analysis of an economic evaluation
• Interpret and present results from an economic evaluation
• Identify how economic evaluation can be useful for their work

Discussions and advice will be tailored to help participants incorporate economic evaluation into their grant proposals.

Who Should Attend?

This workshop is appropriate for clinicians and researchers who want a better understanding of the tools, approaches, and applications of economic evaluation. Professionals involved in advancing innovation in healthcare and/or public health are welcome to apply!

Pre-requisite

Participants will be required to bring along a grant proposal that they are developing for the workshop. Kindly note that only shortlisted participants will be enrolled to the workshop.

Certification

Participants will receive an electronic Certificate of Participation upon attending and completing the entire course.
