Overview
This course offers a practical introduction to Health Technology Assessment (HTA) research, equipping students with the skills to conduct their own studies and comprehend research conducted by others. It covers fundamental principles of HTA and modeling techniques, with a focus on economic evaluation utilised across all stages of HTA research. From conceptualising studies to assessing cost-effectiveness and budget impacts of health technologies, students will gain hands-on experience in conducting economic evaluations using statistical software. Advanced topics and methods from recent HTA academic literature will also be explored, providing insight into the evolving frontier of the field.
Course Objectives
At the end of the course, participants will be able to:
- Articulate fundamental principles of conducting HTA.
- Describe prevalent HTA methodologies.
- Analyse and contrast the advantages and disadvantages of various HTA methods, and select the most suitable methods for specific contexts.
- Design and conceptualise HTA studies.
- Construct health economic models using statistical software.
- Evaluate and appraise the quality of HTA research.
Who Should Attend?
Professionals in the health industry who are interested in the quantitative methods and economic evaluation in HTA.
Entry Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree
- Relevant public health related work experience
- Candidates with other qualifications and experience may be considered on a case by case basis, subject to approval
- Prior knowledge of basic statistics
Assessment & Certification
This is a SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG) approved course. As part of SSG funding requirements, participants have to achieve at least 75% attendance and pass all assessment(s)/examination(s).
An electronic certificate will be issued to all participants who complete the course:
- Certificate of Competence – Attain a ‘C’ grade or above and meet a minimum of 75% attendance
- Certificate of Participation – Attain a grade lower than ‘C’ and meet a minimum of 75% attendance

Assistant Professor Wang YiÂ
Dr Wang Yi’s research areas include early health technology assessment, traditional health technology assessment, population’s preference for health and healthcare, and economic evaluation/analysis using real-world data and observational data. He is also interested in medical innovation and promoting efficient medical innovation process.

Remarks:
- All enrolled candidates will also be required to pay a Student Services Fee of S$25.70*.
- Self-Sponsored participants can use their SkillsFuture Credits to pay for or offset course fees. SkillsFuture Credit claim has to be submitted to SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG) within 60 days before course commencement. SSG will not allow claims to be made after the first day of the course.
