Dr. Alex Cook is a Professor and Vice Dean (Global Health) at the NUS Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health. His research focuses on infectious disease modelling, including dengue, influenza and COVID-19, but he also works on chronic diseases and risk factors for chronic diseases. His team puts particular emphasis on policy-directed research that seeks to inform decisions that governments make that impact on health. Dr Cook’s team applies mathematical and statistical methods to simulate demographic and disease transmission dynamics and thereby to support public health policy. His coordinates the MIDSEA Network of modellers in Southeast Asia, a network that organises regular research and training events in ASEAN and beyond. Within the Global Health Office, he helps to facilitate the global health activities of faculty, staff and students of the Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health.
