HO, Beverly Lorraine
Bev brings with her nearly 14 years of experience in the health sector, oscillating between the public, private, academic and research space to advance universal health coverage in the Philippines through evidence-based policy and health promotion. She spent more than half in the Department of Health rising through the ranks as chief of policy research to become director for health promotion and diseases prevention and control, and eventually, Assistant Secretary of Public Health Services.
Bev built teams and worked with broad stakeholder groups to facilitate reforms, such as passing laws on universal health coverage, tobacco & sugar-sweetened beverage taxes, scaling clinical practice guideline development, mainstreaming social determinants of health and healthy settings, as well as leading award-winning behavior change communication campaigns. She was also Deputy Spokesperson during the pandemic.
Her commitment to build a competent and passionate public health cadre is evident in her teaching stint in local and international universities and two organizations she’s co-founded, namely Alliance for Improving Health Outcomes (AIHO) and the Philippine Society for Public Health Physicians (PSPHP).
Bev holds an MPH from HSPH as a Fulbright scholar, Doctor of Medicine and BS in Biology from University of the Philippines. A fellow of the World Fellows Program at Yale University, the Equity Initiative and the Atlantic Institute at Oxford University, the impact of her work has earned her the recognition of Ten Outstanding Young Men (TOYM) and Ten Outstanding Women in the Nation’s Service (TOWNS) of the Philippines in 2022.
