NUS Open House 2023

In how many jobs have you felt like you were doing something that really made a difference? For Public Health professionals the answer is “too many to count”.

If you share their curiosity about, compassion for and commitment to improving the communities we live in, then studying to prepare for a career in Public Health is a wise choice, one that will change not only your life, but also the lives of others, for the better.

Building upon decades of experience in research, training and practice in epidemiology and public health since 1948, the Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health, under the National University of Singapore, was established in October 2011 as Singapore’s national school of public health. The School aims to continually foster healthier communities in Singapore and the region, and impact public health programmes and policies through its robust educational programmes and translational cross-disciplinary research work on cohort studies, life course epidemiology, infectious disease research amongst others.

When you hear ‘Public Health’ you might immediately think of diseases such as Covid-19. You might imagine people working on ways to prevent infections or detect new outbreaks. Although this is part of what public health is about, there are many other things we do. More and more, we are working on improving the health and well-being of people because we know that health is very much about how people feel. We think about how we can support and enable all people to live happier and healthier lives. And so, when you think about public health, you can think about creating policies, environments and programs that can help people live well.

In our session, you will have the chance to learn about our Public Health programs and how these might open up some interesting career paths for you. We will also give you a delicious taste of our teaching. And of course, we will try to create some well-being for you on the spot. How we’ll do that you ask? You got to join to find out.
