Synopsis:

Governments across the world are showing a growing interest in using evidence generated with the help of mathematical modelling to shape their National Strategic Plans and to support resource mobilisation efforts, as well as to routinely evaluate the impact of interventions implemented by their programmes. For modelling to have a sustainable positive impact, it must be embedded in a multidisciplinary, participatory process, with local scientists and Ministries of Health staff leading this process. Ensuring the skills exist at a local level enables the development of locally relevant models to accelerate disease control and elimination, led by in-country researchers working closely with local decision-makers. Developing this malaria modelling capacity itself requires local leadership and customised training tailored to local needs, culture, and existing capacity. This talk presents a novel framework and application to strengthen analytics & modelling capacity, providing insights on key enablers of success for the sustainable growth in modelling capacity to support global health needs.
