Workshop: Implementation Science, Participatory Research and Chronic Disease Prevention

3-Day Workshop, 9am – 5pm, 2 – 4 December 2019

Implementation Science

While we have amassed a considerable knowledge base of the epidemiology of chronic diseases such as cancer and heart disease, and public health intervention strategies to prevent disease and promote health, there is a considerable gap between research and practice. The emerging field of Implementation Science has been growing to narrow this gap and facilitate the translation of research into practice. At the same time, there is increasing recognition of the need for engaging communities in this translational process.

Objectives

  • Provide foundational knowledge of dissemination and implementation science including the relevance of community based participatory research
  • Integration and application of basic concepts, terminology and frameworks used in implementation science and community-based participatory research to support the translation of chronic disease prevention research into practice or policy
  • Equip participants with the ability to decide whether an intervention has sufficient evidence to be translated into practice or policy
  • Identify strategies for engaging key stakeholders in translation and dissemination

Who Should Attend?

  • Practitioners and researchers involved in health promotion and disease prevention
  • Anyone who is interested in the uses and applications of implementation science and community-based participatory research for translating research into practice
