Abstract:

The global health landscape is increasingly shaped by a destabilized world order marked by armed conflict, climate change, and widening inequities in access to care where once fixed norms, structures and resources are in flux. In contexts such as Ukraine, Gaza and Sudan, the erosion of international humanitarian law and attacks on healthcare have had devastating consequences for patients, health systems, and healthcare workers. At the same time, reductions in global health and humanitarian funding are disrupting essential services in fragile settings from Myanmar and Afghanistan to Bangladesh and Somalia, raising urgent questions about the responsibility of the global community to the world’s most vulnerable populations.

These pressures are further compounded by climate change-driven health threats and the persistence of neglected tropical diseases, which disproportionately threaten communities already facing instability.

Drawing on frontline experience with Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF)/Doctors Without Borders, this lecture will explore how conflict, climate disruption, and shifting global priorities are reshaping responses to health needs, space for humanitarian action, and the implications for health systems, preparedness, and global health equity.

CME and CPE points will be awarded pending approval.
