Abstract:
Chikungunya is re-emerging across the Asia-Pacific region, presenting renewed challenges for public health systems. In this webinar: Dr. Manilay Phengxay will present recent epidemiological trends in the Western Pacific, highlighting expanding transmission risks and efforts to strengthen surveillance, preparedness, and response. Prof. Neelika Malavige will share findings from Sri Lanka’s 2024–25 outbreak, focusing on viral evolution, genomic adaptations, and clinical outcomes, including persistent disease burden. Together, these talks provide complementary perspectives on the evolving chikungunya landscape, linking regional trends with country-level experience to inform future surveillance and response efforts. Moderator: Prof. Leo Yee-Sin from the Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health, NUS.
