Ending inequalities to end AIDS and to end pandemics: HIV prevention and response in ASEAN (World AIDS Day 2021)
Date:
Tuesday, 30 November 2021
Time:
10.00am – 11.30am (Singapore Time)
Synopsis:
40 years later, the AIDS epidemic still threatens the world not because of a lack of knowledge or tools, but because of structural economic, social cultural legal inequalities that obstruct proven solutions to HIV prevention and treatment. Tackling inequalities to advance the human rights of key populations and people living with HIV will make societies better prepared to tackle HIV, COVID-19 and other pandemics, support economic recovery and stability, and save millions of lives.
Tackling the underlying social injustices is a long-standing global promise in the Sustainable Development Goals, in the Global AIDS Strategy 2021–2026, the Political Declaration on AIDS adopted at the 2021 United Nations High-Level Meeting on AIDS.
In this webinar, the Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health, National University of Singapore, and UNAIDS aim to discuss some of the contemporary issues on HIV and AIDS that remain challenging for ASEAN countries, and how digital technologies can help drive change in prevention and support of key populations, contributing to address structural inequalities that continue to put populations at risk.
Attendance is open to academics, students, public health leaders, government, and civil society organisations in ASEAN and the wider Asia Pacific region.
