As part of a collaborative effort to improve public health in Lao DPR, the School together with NUS Global Health collaborated with the Lao Ministry of Health, the World Health Organization, UNICEF and Wateroam to bring clean water to rural Laos.
A team led by Dean, Prof Teo Yik Ying, successfully installed the first water filtration system at Vang Vieng District Hospital. This marks the beginning of a project to deploy the technology in at least 14 sites across Lao PDR. By training local staff to maintain the systems, the implementation project aims to ensure long-term access to safe and clean drinking water and improve the lives of thousands in rural Lao PDR.
This was made possible with the support of Wateroam, a Singapore-based social enterprise, making a difference with their innovative water filtration technology. The filters provide clean drinking water to communities in need, especially in emergency and rural settings. The technology has been deployed globally, including disaster-stricken areas and regions with limited access to clean drinking water.
