The Asia Centre for Health Security (ACHS) was launched on the 17 April at an inaugural dinner that was attended by Guest of Honour, Adjunct Professor Derrick Heng, Deputy Director-General of Health (Public Health), and representatives from government agencies, academic institutions and delegates from the Southeast Asia Strategic Biosecurity Dialogue organised by Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.
ACHS was established as a new academic think tank in Asia, that will work towards preparing Asia for current and emerging biological threats and improving health security.
Based primarily at the National University of Singapore and working closely with S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies at Nanyang Technological University, the Centre is staffed by a multi-disciplinary team led by Centre Director, Professor Hsu Li Yang, who is also Vice Dean (Global Health) at Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health.
“We need to work together to safeguard against unpredictable biological threats and protect the wellbeing of future generations. Only by doing so, can we create a more resilient and united Singapore, Asia and world,” stated Professor Heng.
