Prof Teo Yik Ying, Dean of the NUS Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health, will take on the role of Vice President (Global Health) from 1 September 2023. In this capacity, he will lead the newly established Office of Global Health.
Operating under the Office of the President, the Office of Global Health will spearhead international health engagement endeavors, enabling NUS to play a pivotal role in shaping health policies and outcomes across the region. This will be achieved in a manner that is effective, sustainable, and equitable. The realm of global health, which encompasses various disciplines such as biology, engineering, social sciences, and behavioral sciences, demands a comprehensive university-wide approach to amplify the University’s reach in the ever-evolving global health landscape.
In his new role, Prof Teo will oversee the University’s strategy for global health engagement within the region. Beyond influencing health policies through interdisciplinary translational research, advocacy, and analysis, the Office of Global Health will also strengthen strategic partnerships, solidifying the University’s position as a hub for regional health development. Additionally, it will foster local expertise in global health among neighboring countries by providing training and capacity-building initiatives.
Renowned on an international scale for his expertise in genomics, particularly in statistical genetics and endocrinology statistics, Prof Teo has a wealth of experience leading global health research and initiatives, including extensive genomic studies involving populations worldwide.
Having led the School as Dean since 2018, he has successfully propelled the school to the forefront of national and global public health research and practice, a fact underscored by its remarkable contributions during the pandemic. With this appointment, Prof Teo will continue to serve as Dean.
