The International Advisory Panel (IAP) was held on 23rd and 24th August 2022. The School’s respective offices presented a stock take of the progress and achievements made collectively over the past years as well as addressed the upcoming developments and future challenges that the School will be facing.
The IAP Chairman is Dr Margaret Chan, inaugural Dean of the Tsinghua University Vanke School of Public Health and former Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO). Three other esteemed panel members joined the meetings.
They were:
– Professor Ellen J. MacKenzie, Dean of the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health
– Professor Dame Anne Mills, Deputy Director and Provost and Professor of Health Economics and Policy at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM)
– Professor David Heymann, Chair of the Strategic and Technical Advisory Group on Infectious Hazards (STAG-IH) at the World Health Organization (WHO), and Professor of Infectious Disease Epidemiology, at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM)
Dean, Professor Teo Yik Ying, commenced the meetings with a presentation on the vision and major thrusts of the School. He highlighted significant roles and developments of the School, including domains, programmes, and strategic initiatives.
Subsequently, Vice Dean (Academic Affairs), Associate Professor Jeannette Lee presented on the School’s current faculty members including priority areas for recruitment and challenges. Vice Dean (Education), Associate Professor Liow Chee Hsiang shared about new developments in the School’s education programmes and upcoming plans for new initiatives including DrPH, strategic short courses and executive leadership programmes.
Vice Dean (Research), Associate Professor Alex Cook presented key insights into the research performance of the School and how its core research infrastructure and capabilities are aligned with priorities of stakeholders. Vice Dean (Practice), Associate Professor Jason Yap shed light on the School’s efforts in local and international public health practice.
Vice Dean (Global Health), Associate Professor Hsu Li Yang highlighted key milestones of the School’s global health work as well as strategic partnerships in the region. The sessions were concluded by presentations of the UHS-SSHSPH Integrated Research Programme II by Dr Siyan Yi and HIPER Associate Professor Wee Hwee Lin.
