19 countries have implemented plain tobacco packaging policy, a law that requires tobacco products to be sold in drab-coloured, standardised packs with massive health warnings plastered on them.
However, this does not apply to cigarette sticks. Tobacco companies have been using a variety of features to increase the appeal of cigarettes such as added flavours, nicotine, and attractive designs.
As tobacco companies pay more attention to cigarette sticks, is it time for health leaders to consider a “plain cigarettes” policy?
