The School’s Public Health Translational Team (PHTT) collates the evidence base, reviews literature relevant to the outbreak, and produces the weekly COVID-19 Science Report. In addition to maintaining a knowledge base to support policymaking, the School also supports the Ministry of Health and other agencies in other ways, such as modelling the epidemiology of the virus.
In a blog post for the Nuffield Trust in UK, Associate Professor Jason Yap, Director (Public Health Translation), and Research Associate Ruth Lewis share some reflections on Singapore’s experience and preparations, and the importance of academic–government partnership for evidence-based policymaking.
“A school of public health cannot be on the front lines of this war but there are significant roles to play still when academia and government work closely together. At this challenging time, it is critical that we learn fast from what works and what doesn’t work around containment, mitigation, treatment and prevention. Rapid research will play an essential role in driving policymaking to reduce the impact of COVID-19.”
