Congratulations to Dr Andre Matthias Müller on winning the Young Investigator Traveller Award at the 51st Asia-Pacific Academic Consortium for Public Health (APACPH) Conference. The Award encourages aspiring investigators to conduct quality research in public health.
Dr Müller has many years of regional research experience in the area of physical activity and sedentary behaviour. Fundamentally, he wants people to move more and sit less. While this may seem like an ambitious aim in a world that encourages sedentary pursuits in almost all spheres of life, he believes that multi-level approaches can make a meaningful difference, including individual behaviour change strategies, modifications of the social and physical environment, as well as broader organisational and political initiatives.
Dr Müller is a Lecturer and a proud member of the Physical Activity and Nutrition Determinants in Asia (PANDA) programme. In addition, he hopes to inspire students who take his module on physical activity and health to become ambassadors for an active lifestyle.
At the conference, Dr Müller also received the Best Presentation Award for his comprehensive review of the factors likely to influence sedentary behaviour in Asian adults. Incorporating experiential learning into his presentation, he engaged the audience in a simple exercise session to demonstrate the short-term effects of taking breaks from prolonged sitting.
The Award Presentation was held on 22 November 2019, on the last day of the APACPH Conference.
