The School is proud to announce that Associate Professor Hsu Li Yang and Adjunct Associate Professor Jeremy Lim have been jointly appointed as Co-Directors of the Leadership Institute for Global Health Transformation (LIGHT), with effect from 1 September 2019.
LIGHT was established in 2016 to address global health issues that are relevant to Singapore and the School’s regional partners. It aims to be a platform to encourage cross-fertilisation of ideas, as well as support international collaborations to facilitate evidence-based solutions that deliver measurable public health impact to Singapore and across the world. Moving forward, LIGHT will be the vehicle for the School to achieve regional and global impact by providing leadership in regional and global health, as well as consolidating and forging new partnerships with governments, academia, local communities and NGOs with the purpose to transform health promotion and disease prevention.
A/Prof Hsu has been leading a few Programmes in the School since 2016. He will continue his involvement as Programme Leader of the Infectious Diseases (ID) Programme, where the aim is to improve understanding of ID in Singapore and the region, and to mitigate their impact by conducting rigorous research that can be translated into public policies and practices. A/Prof Hsu is also concurrently the Associate Director of the Singapore Centre for Environmental Life Sciences Engineering (SCELSE).
A/Prof Lim is a Partner in Oliver Wyman’s Singapore office. He advises senior officials at public sector agencies and he has extensive experience consulting and advising multinational private and NGO clients on national and regional strategies for go-to-market plans and implementation, government engagement and public–private partnerships. Prior to joining Oliver Wyman, Jeremy was trained in surgery and public health. He has worked in senior executive roles in both public and private sectors, including time spent as a senior official in the Ministry of Health Singapore, where he was involved in a number of ‘Whole-of-Government’ initiatives. A/Prof Lim is also currently the Chair to the Steering Committee of NUS Initiative to Improve Health in Asia (NIHA), an initiative to strengthen health policy research and education in Asia.
The School expresses its appreciation to Associate Professor Sri Chander for his leadership as Director of LIGHT from 1 January 2018 to 31 August 2019. Under his leadership, the School has successfully forged partnerships with several overseas institutions. A/Prof Chander has also been active in reaching out to potential funders and this has resulted in funding awards to host study visits for overseas delegates, as well as funding from NUS Global Asia Institute to host the recent NIHA Leadership Development Programme 2019.
