The NUS Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health congratulates Prof Saw Seang Mei, our SSHSPH alumna, Dr Pwint Mar Khin (MSc Class of 2011), as well as A/Prof Lee Yung Seng and Dr Wong Teck Yee from the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, on winning the Annals Best Publication Award 2013!
Every year, the Annals Editorial Board of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore, shortlists the best papers published within the previous year and votes for the top 3 papers based on clinical impact, study design and research methodologies, data analysis and quality of data interpretation and balanced discussion.
The team received the Gold Award in the Annals Best Publication Award 2013 for their paper entitled, ‘Prevalence of Overweight and Obesity in Chinese Preschoolers in Singapore’. Their study showed a lower prevalence of overweight and obesity among Chinese preschoolers in Singapore when compared to other countries like the United States, Italy, Chile using the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and/or International Obesity Task Force (IOTF) references. The CDC reference overestimated whereas the IOTF reference underestimated the prevalence of overweight and obesity for our population when compared to using the local National Health Group Polyclinics (NHGP) reference.
The award winners will be recognised during the Academy’s second Induction Comitia on Saturday, 25 October 2014, 2:00 pm at the Health Promotion Board (Level 7). Guest-of-Honour, Mrs Tan Ching Yee, Permanent Secretary (Health), Ministry of Health, Singapore will grace the occasion.
We at the NUS Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health extend our warmest congratulations to Prof Saw Seang Mei and Dr Pwint Mar Khin on this distinguished achievement!
