On 2 August 2013, faculty and staff alike gathered for the launch of Fitness Friday, a Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health fitness initiative in which staff will be allowed to take time off on Fridays from 4pm onwards to participate in various exercise interest groups. The launch of this exercise programme is in line with the School’s efforts in spearheading the initiative to create not just a health-promoting School within the campus, but subsequently a health-promoting NUS as well.
For the inaugural session, Dean Prof Chia Kee Seng introduced the mass walking exercise, followed by Health, Safety and Wellness Committee Chairperson Dr Judy Sng, who introduced the exercise groups to be formed for the subsequent weeks.
Everyone then proceeded to the multi-purpose field for a series of short warm-up exercises led by Dr Riemenschneider-Mueller Falk. Afterwhich, faculty and staff began the 1-hour walk towards University Town, before stopping for a short break then heading back towards the School.
Our SSHSPH colleagues from the Centre for Molecular Epidemiology (CME) also showed their enthusiasm by participating in the exercise, walking from their office at Bukit Merah Inno Centre to Telok Blangah Hill Park and Henderson Waves.
