Mayfong Mayxay
Professor Mayfong Mayxay is the Vice-Rector and a Professor in Tropical Medicine and Infectious Disease at University of Health Sciences (UHS), Ministry of Health, Lao PDR; a Visiting Professor in Tropical Medicine at University of Oxford and a Visiting Professor in Public Health at the National University of Singapore. He is also a member of parliament (MP) of the Lao National Assembly (9th legislation).
He initiated many important academic entities in Laos, including a clinical research unit called “Lao-Oxford-Mahosot Hospital-Wellcome Trust Research Unit or LOMWRU” at Mahosot Hospital; the first Lao Ethical Committee and the first Lao Medical Journal. He co-founded the Lao One Health University Network (LAOHUN) of which he is currently the Chairman and he co-established the Lao Infectious Disease Society (LIDS) where he is currently the President. Recently, he has co-founded a Unit for Health Evidence and Policy (UHEP) at the Lao University of Health Sciences with the aim to act as a platform for the analysis of the policy relevant scientific and health economics evidence to address key public health issues in Laos.
