Workshop: Introduction to Qualitative Methods
Organised by Health Intervention and Policy Evaluation Research (HIPER)
In this workshop, participants will be introduced to the basic ideas behind adopting the use of qualitative research methods in public health. Through hands-on activities and real-life examples, participants will learn how to design a qualitative research study to meet broader research aims and objectives, the different ways to collect data and be equipped with simple data analysis and interpretation skills. Learning Outcomes
At the end of the course, participants would be able to:
- Identify the rationale for using qualitative methods in public health research
- Identify the procedures for selecting a particular design to meet the study aims and objectives
- Apply principles of sampling and recruitment of study participants
- Conduct semi-structured interviews with study participants
- Conduct focus groups with study participants
- Manage and analyse data using qualitative research techniques
