Singapore, like most ageing countries, is facing a swell in chronic disease burden and in turn accelerating healthcare expenditure. In July 2023, Singapore has begun rolling out Healthier SG, a major reform of the health system centering on primary care. This commentary highlights three critical areas for this reform to be successful.
They include:
1. Considering GPs’ needs and ensuring that they have adequate capacity and resources to roll out the reform
2. Leaning into digital solutions to share data across interfaces and stakeholders
3. Fostering trust among the government, GPs and residents to encourage active participation in Healthier SG
Only when these areas are addressed can Healthier SG maximise its potential in keeping Singaporeans healthy and healthier.
