The Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health (SSHSPH), National University of Singapore (NUS), is inviting applications for full-time Assistant Professor/Associate Professor/Professor appointments on the tenure/research/practice track. For tenure-track appointments, appointees are given fixed contracts for up to 7 years, with the goal of obtaining tenured appointments at the end of this period. In addition to an attractive salary and benefits package, new faculty members may be eligible for a start-up grant to initiate their independent stream of research and subsidised university accommodation.

Professionals

Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Data Analytics

Responsibilities

  • Establishing and leading an independent research agenda through securing extramural funding.

Research Assistant/ Associate (Population Health Surveys)

Job Description
The Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health, National University of Singapore (NUS), invites applications for a full-time Research Assistant/Associate position to support data processing and analysis for a large-scale and recurring population health survey.

This survey investigates and tracks the health status and lifestyle of local populations and aims to provide timely information on the studied populations’ health and risk factors for non-communicable diseases. Such information will support the formulation and evaluation of public health policies. The survey utilises quantitative methods and analyses responses to questions on health conditions and lifestyle habits, and collected data from health examinations.

Candidates will have the opportunity to conduct statistical analysis on large volumes of data, and apply research to drive meaningful impact. They will gain valuable exposure working with lead researchers with strong statistical background and stakeholders from organisations involved in policymaking and policy implementation.

Key Responsibilities

Research & Analysis

  • Conduct quality check, and apply sampling frame and weighting on survey data.
  • Run statistical analysis to assess population health trends and impact of public health policies.
  • Work closely with Principal Investigators (PIs) and other stakeholders to design survey questions and methodology, manage ethics applications, and track deliverables.

Project Management & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Work with data collection and processing teams to ensure data accuracy and quality standards.
  • Engage with policymakers and national agencies to ensure survey relevance and impact.
  • Translate survey findings into practical insights and policy recommendations for effective public health policies.

Knowledge Management & Dissemination

  • Synthesise findings into reports and policy briefs.
  • Contribute to knowledge-sharing activities, including public briefing of survey results.

Requirements

  • Degree or Masters in Statistics or related field. (Master’s preferred.)
  • Proficiency in SAS programming, including ODS.
  • Proficiency in R programming
  • Proficiency in quantitative research methods, particularly in survey design.
  • Good analytical and writing skills, with the ability to translate research findings into practical applications, policy recommendations, and reports.
  • Ability to work well in a team and to engage effectively with stakeholders.
  • Work experience in survey and other quantitative research methods is an advantage.

Research Assistant/Associate Policy Analyst – Population Health

The Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health (SSHSPH) at the National University of Singapore (NUS) is recruiting a Research Assistant/Associate Policy Analyst. The rapid population ageing in Singapore calls for innovative solutions. We aim to assess the impact of health promotion programmes (e.g. urban care farming, cognition training, etc) on the health and health-related behaviours of participants. This project will involve recruitment, assessment, and analysis of the research data. The candidate will also be working on models in policy evaluation. This is a full-time position based in Singapore.

Duties may include but are not limited to:

  1. provide programming support to a research project
  2. assist with recruitment and data analyses;
  3. manage large complex databases;
  4. conduct literature reviews 
  5. contribute to the development of scientific papers and the dissemination of the study findings.

The appointed candidate should:

  1. Hold at least a bachelor degree
  2. be proficient in Stata or R and
  3. have experience in statistics, mathematics, econometrics, computer science, quantitative social science, public health, epidemiology or related field. Experience with C++ is preferred but not required.

The ideal candidate should demonstrate the ability to query large data sets and have excellent knowledge of quantitative methods in applied health and/or social sciences. Fluency in English, as well as demonstrably good writing and analytic skills are essential. Fluency in English is required as the candidate will deal with English-speaking stakeholders, such as conducting the research and meetings. The role will suit someone who enjoys problem-solving.

The position is for one year but can potentially be extended. The grade of appointment will be accorded based on candidate’s academic qualifications and years of relevant experience.

Requirements

  • A recognised Doctoral degree in a relevant discipline with a strong post-doctoral professional and/or academic record; OR a qualified medical professional with postgraduate specialisation in occupational health, occupational medicine, or preventive medicine.
  • Proven track record of publishing in high-impact international peer-reviewed journals.
  • Experience in leading independent research studies or components within larger research programmes, and/or developing, leading, implementing and evaluating projects and programmes.
  • Ability to generate and sustain an independent stream of research funding.
  • Ability to teach public health courses at various levels (undergraduate, graduate and lifelong learners).
  • Ability to work within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to work with and teach culturally diverse audiences.
