Public Health Thought Leadership Dialogue: "Capturing the Value of Prevention"

Professor John Ioannidis, C. F. Rehnborg Professor in Disease Prevention at Stanford University and Director of the Stanford Prevention Research Centre, delivered a talk as part of the School’s Public Health Thought Leadership Dialogue on Capturing the Value of Prevention on 18 May 2016. 

Professor Chia Kee Seng, Dean of the NUS Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health, commenced the session with an introduction of the School's Public Health Thought Leadership Dialogue and Prof Ioannidis, a renown mathematician and scientist who has been described as "one of the most influential scientists alive". 

Professor John Ioannidis then delivered his talk on the effectiveness and different challenges faced in research studies on prevention. He also shared about the concept of 'wellness' and the Wellness Living Laboratory (WELL) currently being developed at Stanford.

Prof Ioannidis' talk was followed by a discussion moderated by Professor Lee Hin Peng of the Leadership Institute for Global Health Transformation (LIGHT). The discussion panelists included Professor James Best, Dean of the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, Nanyang Technological University, Dr Derrick Heng, Group Director, Public Health Group at the Ministry of Health, Singapore and Associate Professor Rob van Dam, Domain Leader of the Epidemiology domain at the Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health.

The session ended with Prof Chia presenting tokens of appreciation to the moderator and panelists, including a customised artwork collage of Prof Ioannidis' most well-known research publications.
